The Unit is tasked with:

  • Assisting in Community Development through collaboration with Community Tourism Associations.
  • Collaborating with public/private sector organisations in tourism development and management.
  • Facilitating the granting of concessions under the Hotels Aid Act (1988), Hotel Construction Approval Orders, Hotel Expansion Orders and Hotel Improvement Orders.
  • Conducting site visits in collaboration with the Customs and Excise Department to accommodation establishments that benefit from Duty Free Concessions as provided by the Hotels Aid Act (1988).
  • Facilitate improvement in the marine and land transportation sector.
  • Facilitate the development of sites and attractions.
  • The formulation and execution of strategic policies and plans aimed at the sustainable development of tourism products and services for the tourism industry.







The Ministry of Tourism has develop plans for the following sub-sectors of the SVG Tourism Product.

They are:

  • Marine Tourism
  • Water-sports/Whale and Dolphin watching
  • Nature Tourism
  • Heritage Tourism
  • Churches, Old Forts and Petroglyphs
  • Sports Tourism

The Ministry continues with  the expansion of  its Product Inventory Database.

The Ministry of Tourism use the following Planning, Research and Statistics Strategies:

  • Develop Strategies to curb the decline in same day visitors and maximize the benefits from this category of visitors.

  • Develop a Marine Tourism Development Plan.

  • Organise the Annual Planning Meeting for the Ministry of Tourism (including the overseas offices and other  Government Ministries,  Departments and Statutory Bodies)

  • Continue the co-ordination of the OAS/STEP Project.

  • Produce Monthly Analysis, Quarterly Reports and an Annual Report.

  • Meet on a quarterly basis with the various industry stakeholder groups.
