Bureau of Standards, as the National Standards Body of St. Vincent and the Grenadines is resolved to be the leader in all matters concerning Standardization, Certification, Quality and Laboratory Services.

The SVGBS would achieve these objectives by working in close cooperation with all concerned Ministries, Agencies, Organizations and Stakeholders and by adopting appropriate management systems, motivating and ensuring active participation of all the employees.
The SVGBS has established that the core values and behaviours it will be pursuing in carrying out its mandate are:
The St. Vincent and the Grenadines Bureau of Standards modus operandi is guided by its overall legislative mandates, the policy of Government and the administrative direction of National Standards Council.
The SVGBS was legally established by the Standards Act No. 70 of 1992 , (amended by Act No. 28 of 2001 ) which gives the Bureau the authority to inter alia: to prepare and promote standards relating to goods, services, processes and practices produced and/or used in SVG, to ensure industrial efficiency and to assist in industrial development as well as to promote public and industrial welfare, health, safety and to safeguard against negative effects to the environment”.
Additionally, the SVGBS is responsible for the administration of the Weights and Measures Act No. 16 of 2003. This legislation gives the SVGBS the responsibility for regulating all weighing and measuring devices used for trade in St. Vincent and the Grenadines .

Generally, the SVGBS has statutory responsibilities for the quality of g oods, services, processes and practices produced and/or used in SVG and it is the only National body charged with the declaration of National Standards.
