The principal institution responsible for shaping the government’s policy in respect of the country’s institutional development and to stimulate the development of the industrial sector by promoting  greater economic diversification, export competitiveness and improved productivity.  This unit processes applications for industry incentives under the Fiscal Incentives Act, Chapter 366 of the Laws of St. Vincent and the Grenadines (Revised Edition) 1990.

Overview

The Ministry and in particular, the Industry Division has been given new impetus to take industrial development to a new plateau in this liberalized and global environment.
This thrust is reflective in our mission and vision statements below.

Mission Statement

To stimulate the development of the industrial sector by promoting  greater economic diversification, export competitiveness and improve productivity and investment, thus contributing  to the socio- economic development of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Vision Statement

To be recognised as the leading government agency for the promotion of informatics and industrial development in St. Vincent and the Grenadines.

Objectives

The programme objective of the Industry Division, which is reflected in the 2003 work programme, includes -

  1. Monitoring, administering and co-ordination of the Fiscal Incentive programme for industrial development and the Industrial Incentive Credit programme for small manufacturers.

  2. Offering technical and small grant assistance to small producers in terms of product development (i.e. packaging, labelling, preparation techniques, etc.).

  3. Improving the export competitiveness of the private sector.

  4. Coordination of the development of the Information Communications Telecommunication (ICT) Sector.

  5. The operation of the Industrial Information System (IIS).

  6. Revising and updating of the Fiscal Incentive Regime.

  7. Develop a research agenda for industrial development and planning.

  8. Co-ordinate and facilitate the establishment of Enterprise Zones.

  9. Co-ordinate the development of a Pilot Processing Facility.

  10. Operationalise Integrated  Investment Promotion Programme.
