The Ministry is continuing to plan along the line of development of the National Cultural Foundation as a statutory body that would handle the developmental aspect of cultural life in St. Vincent and the Grenadines. In that framework, policy, coordination, and event management would become the main roles of the Department of Culture. However, that transition will be available when resources are available.

The role of the Department of Culture has expanded over the last few years. It has been responsible for the organisation of a number of significant national events.

As a first step in strengthening the institution and building capacity in the Department of Culture, it is proposed that a new position of Director of Culture be created.
