Christianity is the dominant religion. The main denominations are Anglican, Catholic, Methodist, Evangelical and Pentecostal. There is also a sizable Rastafarian community and small groups of Hindus and Muslims. Christian holy days, including Good Friday, Easter, Whit Monday, and Christmas, are national holidays.
The official currency is the Eastern Caribbean Dollar (EC$). The US dollar is also widely accepted throughout St. Vincent and the Grenadines and the exchange rate is fixed at US$1 = EC$2.68. Exchange rates with other international currencies are variable.
Many hotels, restaurants and businesses accept credit cards. Some smaller restaurants and businesses operate on a cash-only basis, it is recommended to take cash with you on outings.
There are many commercial banks in St. Vincent and the Grenadines and most have ATMs that will accept credit/debit cards. Note that funds are dispensed in Eastern Caribbean dollars.
English is the official language; however, the majority of the populace can be heard speaking the local dialect.
All islands in St. Vincent and the Grenadines (with the exception of Palm Island and Petit St. Vincent which use the US style 2 pin system and have 110V 60Hz electricity supplies) use 220/240V 50Hz supplies and the UK style 3 pin system.
Nationals of the following countries listed hereunder are required to obtain a pre-entry visa for Saint Vincent and the Grenadines: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, China, Dominican Republic, Haiti, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Nepal, Nigeria and Syria. People from the above-named countries must apply to the Ministry of National Security in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
