The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines is implementing the World Bank-supported Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Strengthening Project (CMEMS/GEF-7). This project, funded by a US$3.65 million GEF grant, will run over a five-year period from April 2022 to 2027.
The World Bank Group serves as the executing agency, with local implementation led by the Sustainable Development Unit of the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture.
The project development objective is to strengthen the management of coastal and marine ecosystems of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, including the protection of critical habitats and biodiversity for the enhancement of ecosystem services in SVG.
The GEF-7 project is pleased to invite the public to participate in two upcoming beach clean-up events. These clean-ups are part of the ongoing efforts to protect and preserve the marine environment that aligns with the project’s development objectives.
Under the theme “A Step Towards Cleaner Seas Where All Marine Species Can Live Free,” the clean-ups will focus on maintaining the cleanliness and beauty of our pristine beaches, ensuring a healthier ecosystem for local marine species. These events will also serve as a precursor to additional initiatives planned within the project’s designated pilot sites.
The details for the events are as follows:
- Friday, 7th February, 2025: Stubbs Beach
-
Friday, 14th February, 2025: Diamond Beach
Both events will run from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. These clean-ups offer individuals and groups an opportunity to contribute to the preservation of our coasts and create a healthy environment for marine species to thrive.
