The Sustainable Development Unit (SDU) in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture is forging new alliances to drive environmental sustainability in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG).
In a courtesy call with the Executive Director of Conservation International (CI); Mr. Olivier Langrand and the Managing Director of the Critical Ecosystems Partnership Fund (CEPF); Mr. Jack Tordoff, key discussions were held on strengthening collaboration and advancing shared conservation goals. The courtesy visit to Dr. Tamira Browne, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture, set the stage for deeper engagement as SVG welcomes Conservation International as the new Implementing Agency of the Global Environment Facility Small Grants Programme (GEF-SGP).
During the meeting, CI introduced the SDU to its extensive programme of work, exploring synergies and identifying opportunities for impactful partnerships with civil society organisations. The dialogue underscored the commitment to fostering environmental resilience and community-driven conservation efforts.
Stakeholder consultations on 25th and 26th March, 2025, will bring together Government agencies, Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), and Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) to chart a path forward. These discussions aim to strengthen the partnership between the SDU, CI, and CEPF, ensuring meaningful support for local environmental initiatives and sustainable development in SVG.
This engagement marks a significant step in reinforcing SVG’s commitment to preserving its rich biodiversity, fostering climate resilience, and empowering communities in sustainable environmental practices.
