The Department of Tourism in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture will, on Saturday, 27th September 2025, join the rest of the world in celebrating World Tourism Day 2025.
World Tourism Day is celebrated annually to increase awareness of tourism’s contribution to economies throughout the world. The United Nations World Tourism Organisation (UNWTO) 2025 theme, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”, will seek to highlight tourism’s transformative potential as an agent of positive change.
In keeping with the theme, the Department of Tourism will, on World Tourism Day, highlight various sustainable tourism initiatives by tourism stakeholders in both the public and private sectors throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.
The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture will on Friday, September 26th, officially launch a joint initiative of the various arms of the Ministry to accelerate the sustainable transformation thrust. According to the Hon. Carlos James, Minister of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development and Culture:
"The theme of World Tourism Day 2025 calls on us to rethink and reshape how we experience and share our world. For Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, this means protecting the natural assets that define our islands and ensuring that our communities and visitors alike enjoy clean, litter-free environments. By valuing our environment as much as our culture and people, we strengthen our tourism product, safeguard our heritage, and build a sustainable future for generations to come."
Friday’s launch will be held at the Botanical Garden from 1:00 p.m.
World Tourism Day will be recognised all across the globe, and the UNWTO’s celebrations will take place in Melaka, Malaysia, a city renowned for its rich history, diverse culture, and commitment to sustainable growth. As the UNWTO reflects on tourism’s impact, World Tourism Day 2025 is a reminder that travel is more than seeing new places; it is about making a positive difference in the world.
