The Government of Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, through the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation, Sustainable Development, and Culture, hosted a Coastal and Marine Capacity Assessment Workshop on Wednesday, 15th October, 2025, at the Calliaqua Town Hall. Held under the theme “Enhancing Agencies’ Capacity in Building Coastal and Marine Management Systems that are Resilient and Sustainable,” the workshop aimed to raise awareness of integrated coastal and marine management and strengthen institutional capacity for effective resource governance.
Presentations were delivered by key experts, including Senior Fisheries Officer; Mr. Kris Isaacs, Superintendent of the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority; Mr. Kevin Providence, Director of SUSGREN; Ms. Orisha Joseph, and Environmental Consultant; Dr. Reynold Murray. Discussions highlighted issues such as legislative gaps, biodiversity conservation, and the need for stronger collaboration among stakeholders.
Environmental Resource Analyst; Mrs. Samantha DaSilva described the workshop as a vital platform for reflection and collaboration. Dr. Murray underscored the importance of national dialogue on the Blue Economy as the next economic frontier.
The event, attended by 23 participants from government, private, and NGO sectors, forms part of the SVG Coastal and Marine Ecosystems Management Strengthening Project (CMEMSP), funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented through the World Bank.
