The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development hosted a staff retreat on Monday, 16th February 2026, under the theme “Transforming Tourism Together: From Vision to Action.” The retreat formed part of the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to strengthen internal alignment, performance, and strategic direction.
The session was led by the Honourable Minister of Tourism, Dr. Kishore Shallow, who challenged team members to redefine success by focusing on key performance metrics essential to advancing the Ministry’s mandate across all areas of responsibility. Minister Shallow emphasised the need for clarity of purpose, accountability, and results-driven action in achieving sustainable tourism development.

To complement the Minister’s presentation, Tourism and Communications Consultant, Jamal Slocombe, facilitated sessions designed to encourage collaboration, innovation, and collective problem-solving, allowing staff to actively contribute to shaping the way forward for the sector.
The retreat also featured contributions from several facilitators, including Dr. Tamira Browne, Permanent Secretary (Ag.); Mrs. Faylene King, Director of Tourism; Mr. Shawn Sutherland and Ms. Aina Browne, Managers at the Saint Vincent and the Grenadines Tourism Authority; Ms. Sbongile Deriggs, Consultant to the Authority; and Mrs. Rodica Tannis, Director of the National Parks, Rivers and Beaches Authority.

Discussions focused on identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the tourism sector, with particular emphasis placed on translating analysis into concrete actions and measurable outcomes.

The retreat was held on the eve of Global Tourism Resilience Day, observed annually on 17th February, in recognition of the resilience, adaptability, and innovation of the global tourism community.
