The Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development will be facilitating a Service Excellence and Tourism Education Training programme for small businesses and supermarket vendors throughout Saint Vincent and the Grenadines.

The sessions, slated for November 10th–17th, are being held as part of activities to mark Tourism Month.

Communications Manager in the Ministry of Tourism, Civil Aviation and Sustainable Development, Mrs. Jewelene Charles-Scott, is encouraging the relevant stakeholders to get involved in the training programme.

Mrs. Scott noted: "This training is geared towards those persons within the supermarkets and the vegetable markets. Again, we are emphasising that tourism is everyone's business. So we are ensuring that you too are involved—you at the supermarkets, you at the vegetable markets—that you too have the information because the reality is that anyone can approach you, any guest can approach you, any visitor can approach you and ask about tourism in Saint Vincent and the Grenadines, and we want you to be knowledgeable so that you can share the correct information."

Mrs. Charles-Scott said the initiative is designed to enhance customer service standards and improve participants’ understanding of the tourism industry.

She added: "We want to ensure that you can present yourself in the most professional manner and be able to give quality customer service. So, we have that training, and that training would be more like short plays where we'll have persons from the Department of Culture just dramatizing customer service and tourism education in a very fun and interactive way."
